Supporting Families of Students with Learning Disabilities | VIP Evenings
Educational Pathways Academy (EPA), a school for language-based learning disabilities in Florida, is excited to introduce our VIP (Very Informed Parents) Evenings for families at EPA. These events serve as an invaluable source of knowledge and support for parents, helping to increase understanding and empower families dealing with the unique challenges of learning disabilities.
The inaugural VIP Evening was a remarkable success, featuring an esteemed guest speaker, Dr. Rachel Cohen, an experienced Educational Audiologist with a specialty in Auditory Processing Disorders (APD) and an Auditory Verbal Therapist. The event marked a significant milestone in our commitment to supporting our students and their families.
The focus of this informative event was to provide insight and practical knowledge about auditory processing challenges. Dr. Cohen provided an in-depth introduction to this condition, helping parents comprehend the impacts on their children’s learning experiences. She gave a thorough explanation of what defines an Auditory Processing Disorder, how to recognize its warning signs, and effective strategies to provide assistance and support to children facing this challenge.
Dr. Cohen covered the various types of therapies used to assist with APD and highlighted numerous apps, games, and programs that can aid. She also provided insights into different strategies and accommodations for APD that can significantly contribute to a child’s learning success.
The launch of our VIP Evenings marks a significant step forward in our ongoing commitment to creating a supportive and informed community. As we move forward, EPA is committed to hosting more such enriching evenings, inviting experts and professionals to share their insights, strategies, and experiences to empower parents in navigating the challenges of learning disabilities.
The success of the first VIP Evening shows the importance of creating a platform where parents, educators, and professionals can come together to share knowledge and build a stronger, more supportive community in Southwest Florida.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Rachel Cohen for her invaluable contribution to the success of this event and look forward to future collaborations with other experts.
