Make YOUR Mission a Masterpiece

The mission of Educational Pathways Academy started with one child, Timothy. Like many other children with learning differences, Timothy struggled in school even though he was a bright child. As he was transferred from school to school, he soon began to lose his self-confidence and self-worth. He felt rejected and unwanted until Molly Arthur (Founder of EPA) became his tutor.

Mission Masterpiece is about funding the future of children like Timothy with language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia. It is about creating permanent places of refuge, protection and safety for these students with learning differences, many of whom have been under-served, misunderstood and wounded by past academic experiences. It is about providing them with an educational environment where they are understood and nurtured academically, socially and emotionally.

Dyslexia & Other Learning Disabilities Are Real

It is estimated that 8.5 million school children are affected by dyslexia and 1 in 5 Americans have some type of learning disability. Dyslexia is the most common, representing 80-90% of those with learning disabilities. Dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and visual and auditory processing disorders are the next most common. (These numbers only account for children who are diagnosed. Many more go undiagnosed.)

The risk of failure for children with Learning Disabilities is HIGH.

  • 1/3 of students with learning disabilities are held back a grade, raising the risk of dropping out.

  • Students with learning disabilities dropout of high school at nearly 3x the rate of all students.

  • 45% of parents with children with learning disabilities report their child has been bullied in the last year.

People with undiagnosed learning disabilities can struggle through life.

  • 31-38% of the prison population is dyslexic.

  • 85% of juvenile offenders report problems reading.

  • 60% of substance abuse patients are found to have a learning disability.
